Safety in the laboratory requires some training. All Students must take the on-line training and complete the on-line tests so that they can obtain a dosimeter badge and work in the intermediate laboratories on the 5th floor. Both Radiation Safety and Laser Safety training are required.

Start by going to the EHS website at https://research.uiowa.edu/ehs/
Click on “Training” under Quick Links.
Click on
the NON-Paid Students/Guest ICON Safety Training link (second one down).
After you log in, you can click on the “Content” bar in the upper left hand
corner of the page. This will show the list of available classes.
Scroll down to the appropriate topic:

Laser Safety, Research - W028RD
...
Sealed Sources Radiation Safety - W023RD
First go through the training module and then take the EXAM.
Be sure to save your answers by clicking appropriately!
To pass you need to get at least 80% Good Luck!

NOTICE CONCERNING THE REPORTS
If a future employer needs a copy of your exposure history from when you were at Iowa
you will need to include your ID number & not your SSN on the request. Since we are going to use your ID number instead of your social security number to keep track
of your reports, we may not be able to locate your exposure history later unless you
provide your ID number.
