The Q-Machine

The Q-Machine is a versatile device for producing a nearly fully ionized, collisionless, magnetized plasma. Its operation was described in a paper by Rynn and D'Angelo in 1960 (reprint). A monograph describing its construction, operation and first experiments was written by R. W. Motley (Q Machines, 1957, Academic Press, NY).

A description of the construction and operation of the Q machine at the University of Iowa is given here.
